About the city. Berlin, which has around 5,000 e-scooters and more to come in the future, is vying for the title of Europe’s e-scooter capital.
Goal
The aim of the project is to unlock the “Mobilitätswende’”s full potential by making micro-mobility truly sustainable.
Implementation period. Implementation started in 2020.
Fact
People face the problem that Typically re-charging e-mobility vehicles such as scooters and bikes is costly, inefficient and unsustainable.
Solutions
SunCrafter uses disregarded solar panels as a resource and turns them into a network of autonomous solar charging stations.
Off-grid stations provide ever-changing cityscapes with immediate, user-friendly and adaptable access to energy. They offer a power output of up to 1 kW and are capable of charging various devices needed in the modern world. Its applications range from providing Internet access via built-in Wi-Fi, lighting public places, collecting environmental data using sensors, and recharging e-mobility vehicles such as scooters and bicycles.
Technical features of the stations:
- Photovoltaic generators with solar input with a capacity of up to 1 kW and a battery capacity of 4.8 kWh.
- Charge and control up to 5 e-scooters and e-bikes in individual charging locations.
- Remote monitoring via GSM.
- Charge any device via USB and wireless charging points.
- Customizable station with Wi-Fi access point, lighting systems, environmental data sensors, and advertising space.
Challenges
One of the key issues was how many different stakeholders should be involved in cities, mobility, and the public sector to build a single station. The company understood that in order to be fast in terms of “time to deployment”, it needed to cut as much red tape as possible. The fact that SunCrafter stations are compact, operate on direct current and do not require a network connection saves time and effort.
