The Centracs SPM (Signal Performance Measures) System

About the city.

The city of Fort Collins, Colorado, has implemented a cloud-based system that helps optimize traffic signals timing in the city. Fort Collins experiences very dynamic traffic conditions on the urban-level, including large swings in the volume of pedestrian traffic.

Goal

The aim of the project is to enable cities to actively synchronize traffic signals timing in order to maintain a smoother flow of traffic in the city.

Implementation period. Centracs SPM was deployed in late 2019.

Fact

45% of the population growth in the last several decades has caused an increase in vehicle traffic counts to more than 75,000 vehicles per day at some of its busiest intersections.

Solutions

Econolite’s Centracs SPM (signal performance measures) solution helps to pinpoint patterns and better manage traffic conditions in real-time.

Real-time Centracs SPM data resolution serves for further improvement in traffic signal change timing.

Centracs SPM is a high-resolution cloud-based traffic data collection and analysis platform developed by experienced traffic management software specialists as a reliable solution that allows cities to actively synchronize traffic signal timing to maintain a smoother flow of traffic on roads. The Centracs SPM solution is based on advanced optimization algorithms leveraging the Purdue Link Pivot analysis with Red and Green Occupancy Ratio.

Timeline

With traffic drastically reduction due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fort Collins Traffic Operations Department was able to use the opportunity to test the Centracs SPM’s enhanced signal optimization accuracy to be better prepared when road and traffic conditions return to normal.
