About the city. People with disabilities are more likely to live in poverty comparing to the rest. The poverty rate is especially high among persons with long-term disabilities.
Goal
The City prioritizes service for the following trip purposes: access to senior centres providing hot meals and places for food procurement, government and medical facilities.

More than 3.2 million Floridians, 22.2% of the population, reported a disability in 2000. This was higher than the national average of 19.3%. Disability in Florida varied by gender: 22.8% of men and 21.7% of women had a disability
Solutions
The On-Demand Transportation Service is a free transportation service provided to the elderly and persons with special needs that are residents of the City of Miami.
What are the features and conditions?

In order to be eligible for this service, a person must be a City of Miami resident AND meet one or both of the following criteria:
A. Low-income and over the age of 65; or
B. Disabled, as defined by The Americans with Disabilities Act 1990 (ADA).

It’s important to collect some information:

Applicant’s name, date of birth, telephone number, home address, monthly income, type of home.

If you are disabled, do you use a wheelchair, and if so, and are you mobile enough to move from car to chair?

Clear and legible copies of your current picture identification and social security benefits verification letter. All documents MUST have the same address.

If someone is filling out this form for the applicant, they will be required to provide name & contact info.

The third step is to fill out the application.

Service & Scheduling is available Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

The service is provided within City of Miami limits where the scheduled trip is no longer than five (5) miles in distance.

For reservation, a person must call 305-537-4188 at least 24 hours in advance.

Timeline
In 2020, the project became more widespread. A special application was introduced, GO Connect for iOS and Android. It is provided by Miami-Dade County and powered by Via. People are able to book an on-demand ride to connect with Miami-Dade Transit hubs or to travel to nearby destinations. What’s more, the app is available in Spanish and Creole.
